FABRICations participated in the design of the Bijlmerbajes complex , a large redevelopment plan, in collaboration with OMA and Lola Landscape Architects. The former prison in Amsterdam was analyzed through the lenses of our Sustainability scan, which assessed its historical, social, cultural, environmental value, and it carefully evaluated the role of the new development in the dynamics of the city. Basing on the outcome of our research, the new development plan was designed to create a high density housing complex while preserving historical elements, adopting cutting edge sustainable strategies and creating a new high quality urban environment for the city of Amsterdam.
The project is displayed on our website in two components:
- Bajes Kwartier Sustainable Masterplan: The set of systems and strategies that define and aliment the building complex
- Green Tower Bajeskwartier: The center of the composition, where all the systems come together
The project, developed for AM, AT Capital and Cairn, was awarded by the jury 95/100 points and selected for the first prize in the public competition. Bajes Kwartier is currently in the implementation phase.
